Arts in Global Health

Photography
About:

This series of work is a collaborative work with James Muriuki, generated during the Art in Global Health Residency, part of the Wellcome Collection Grant in 2012.

Concept:

Sterile gloves were a material we came across often in the hospital section as well as in the laboratories during our research at KEMRI. It’s a material that protects but also creates a barrier. We started to explore how we could use the gloves as a visual conduit as we were experimenting with the material and recording the process we threw them up in the air to get them to land in a natural order, Muriuki saw the light going through them took a picture as they were mid air – this started the Conjured Paths, Skies, Herbs, and Gloves series. The playfulness of the work along with the difficulty of the situation is what attracted us most to the material and its presentation
