Kaspale - The Lab Intervention

Year2019

About the Work

Performance to video Concept: Kaspale is a character I have devised to intervene in spaces charged with colonial histories/activities. The Kaspale’s are generally playful tricksters who engage themselves in social and satire. They have the task and ability to call out authority when needed. They speak up when others can’t. Kaspale's Lab Intervention was performed in the MARKK Museums conservation corridors where the labs used to be. classification took place in the early 1900s. Kaspale intervenes by laying about, waiting, walking on top of the rails and tables, hopping about the basement corridors where the first practical lessons of race classification took place. FORMAT Diptych / C-type Photographic Print on Acrylic YEAR 2019 SIZE (size to be determined) PERFORMED MARKK Museum, Hamburg, Germany
