Portals: Houses of the Present Past

Installation About: Kyambi’s installation consists of earthenware ceramic work with sisal ropes, hessian cloth and Christmas lights. The work references specific physical spaces visited by the artist in 2010. They include the Fort Jesus Museum, Mombasa, the Kilifi Sisal Plantation Farm, Kilifi, the Karen Blixen Museum, Nairobi, and the Kenya Railway Station and train line from Nairobi to Mombasa. This body of work was developed under the project 'Not About Karen Blixen' as part of the My World Images Festival 2010 that uses the name of Karen Blixen to reflect on relations between Europe and Africa.
